My current job that I started last summer has been a godsend in every way possible. With this has also come some fringe benefits: Computers and hardware they don’t want. Fast forward a bit and ended up scoring a nice old Sandy Bridge Xeon and upgrade my gaming desktop!
Now my best friend has always harped about my Bulldozer CPU being a big of a slug and hurting my graphics’ performance. I didn’t pay much attention when I should have because he was right.
The good stuff:
The specs of the upgraded system are as follows:
- Intel Xeon E3-1245 3.3GHz (3.7 Turbo) Sandy Bridge
- 16GB ECC RAM
- EVGA 1050 ti 4GB Graphics
- 240GB Kingston SSD
- 4TB Seagate HDD
- 350Watt Stock PSU
- Ugly intel T1600 case
Back to my friend’s point about the CPU: This thing is a beast and it’s almost a decade old monster. The performance gains were huge in just normal usage of the system. They were more apparent once I started gaming on this and doing benchmarks. Fallout 4 at 1080p using Ultra settings was netting around 40-60FPS now and GTA online was going 70-100 in most cases using similar settings. The biggest thing is that the frames don’t suddenly plummet randomly as well. Not bad for a 2 dollar computer.
I’m still streaming whenever possible at chaotic_legacy88 if anyone wants to check it out. Cheers!
